Although it’s low season here in Phuket and events are at a minimum, this month Phuket and the rest of the world will be able to enjoy possibly the world’s greatest sporting event, The 2012 Summer Olympic & Paralympic Games, also known as London 2012, which will feature 26 sports and a total of 39 disciplines. Since winning the bid for this great event, and the countdown clock in Trafalgar Square started ticking away, Stratford in the east of London and many of its surrounding areas have been transformed in a new 200 hectare Olympic Park. The Opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics will be held on 27 July 2012 and will be officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. A total of around 4,700 medals will be awarded at the Olympic and Paralympic Games and although none of these will end up in Phuket, we have some great promotions, which are available only in Phuket, and are certainly worthy of a medal.
