out of control, this, what should be a fun event, has become. What originally started as the pouring of water over elder's hands and feet has turned into an enormous water fight which unfortunately at times goes a little too far, and sees the largest amount of incidents/accidents than any other time of the year.
This year, measures are allegedly being put in place to try to reduce the numbers of injuries including no-alcohol zones, designated water fight zones and also no pickup trucks being allowed to be overloaded with people wanting to drive around throwing, which is not uncommon, ice cold water over even the unsuspecting.
We at Phuketindex hope that everybody can enjoy Songkran, but we also hope that these measures are adhered to and that the numbers of fatalities and injuries will be less than past years.
By all means go out and enjoy yourselves, but please bear in mind your safety and the safety of others.
